Central Committee of the Consejo Jacobeo

Regulated by Royal Decree 1431/2009 of 11 September , governing the reorganisation of the Consejo Jacobeo.

Functions of the Central Committee

The functions of the Central Committee consist of the study and setting forth of the following matters:

  • Actions for the demarcation, signposting, itinerary and maintenance of the Camino de Santiago on all of its historical routes.
  • Actions for the restoration and preservation of assets linked to the historical and cultural heritage of the Camino de Santiago.
  • Activities for the promotion of the Camino de Santiago and its national and international diffusion for the purposes of culture and tourism, with special attention to providing services to pilgrims.
  • Specific actions in relation to the commemoration of Jacobean Years.
  • Actions for improving the landscape and environment surrounding the Camino de Santiago.

Composition of the Central Committee

The committee comprises the following members:

  • Chairman: Minister of Education, Culture and Sport
  • Vice-Chairman: Minister of Culture, Education and Universities of the Autonomous Community of Galicia.
  • Secretary: Director General for Cultural Policies and Industries and Books of the Secretary of State for Culture, Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

Members for the Autonomous Communities:

  • Minister of Education, Language Policy and Culture of the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country.
  • Minister of Business and Employment of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia.
  • Vice-President and Minister for the President, Public Administrations and Justice of the Autonomous Community of Galicia.
  • Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias.
  • Minister of Education, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria.
  • Minister of Education, Culture and Tourism of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja.
  • Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sport of the Autonomous Community of Aragon.
  • Minister of Culture, Tourism and Institutional Relations of the Chartered Community of Navarre.
  • Minister for Culture and Community Tourism of the Autonomous Community of Castile-León.
